Got Your Goat by Tom Brown
One of Our #FASOStory Winners
Tom was raised in Colorado and has always loved the out doors and is an avid fly fisherman. It was only natural for him to be attracted to landscapes and rural America when he began to paint seriously. He enjoys painting plein air (outdoors) and also works from his studio. He is fascinated with old farm buildings, which have so much character and are rich in history. "It's all about their story," he says. Living in North Texas affords many opportunities to study and paint such scenes. He is primarily self taught, but has studied under the likes of Joseph Zbukvic, Daniel Marshall and Vinita Pappas.
He has served on the board of the Southwestern Watercolor Society as the 1st Vice President and has attained signature member status.
Tom has had paintings juried into many prestigious exhibits around the country. He attributes his success and growth in the medium of watercolor to his circle of friends and his understanding wife, all who continually influence and challenge him.
With every painting I attempt to tell a story. Mood and atmosphere are paramount to creating a great painting. I strive to communicate these elements to the viewer, in a visual language. I ask myself this question, "What must I do to cause someone to walk across the room to view my painting and then assure that they are not disappointed once they arrive?"
